It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
