Zohran Mamdani Vows a 'Dawn' for The Big Apple in Maiden Speech
On his inauguration day in office, Zohran Mamdani committed to “reimagine” America's largest city, declaring “a different age” and an bold start to his term.
A Groundbreaking Mayor
The 34-year-old political star, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first mayor of South Asian descent. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Qur'an.

As his work begins, Mamdani and his wife will relocate from their Queens apartment to the stately Gracie Mansion. The outgoing mayor offered a quirky piece of advice about a reputed resident spirit in the home, which reportedly only haunts those who fail to “do right by the city.”
Mamdani concluded his remarks with a simple declaration: “The work has only just begun.”
